What’s Ripe this Week?

January 11, 2021

Happy Monday!

We’re back in the kitchen after a glorious weekend of seeing friends old and new at our first pick-up of 2021.

If you’ve been waiting to try Ripe until after the holiday madness, now’s the time!

Does resolution season (ie: January) conjure up images of dry chicken and steamed broccoli?

Folks, it doesn’t have to be that way!

This month’s Air Box features Mary’s Organic Chicken that we lovingly brine in house and send you home with full video instruction to get perfectly crispy skin and extremely juicy interior.

It’s sauced with coconut curry butternut velouté and wilted spinach, and served with Rye Bread with wild mushroom duxelles butter, Speckled Chicories with creamy preserved yuzu vinaigrette, crushed hazelnuts, and pickled herbs, and a Pear Brown Butter Tart with chocolate-cherry-sesame-butter ice cream.

If you’re going to eat well, eat WELL!

At Ripe, we love our farmers. This week we’re spotlighting Gathering Together Farms. Naomi grew up just minutes away from John Eveland and Sally Brewer’s winding 50-acre farm along the Marys River in Philomath, Oregon, and considers them long-time friends.

They’ve been certified organic by the Oregon Tilth since 1987 and grow over 300 different varieties of over 50 different types of vegetables.

Add their Winter Garden Greens on to any meal box or dinner order for the perfect side dish (or quick lunch!) throughout the week.

The antidote to the endless wet, cold January weather?

Handmade soup!

Our hearty, rich Beef & Vegetable Stew with Carman Ranch short rib and roasted root vegetables will bring the comfort we all need in 2021.

Add on Some Soup
Speaking of things we need in 2021 – Katie has been busy bringing in some pretty amazing beverages, including some awesome Winter Ciders.

Cider is a great low-proof option for your “damp January” dinner table. While stylistically very different from each other, the common thread between them is sourcing local apples and family-owned and operated.

Son of Man Sagardo, a Basque-style cider, showcases pure apple fruit with a slight saline quality. It is medium-bodied from extended lees contact and a lovely pairing with the Creamy Leek Soup or Butternut and Gorgonzola Ravioli.

Art + Science Mountain Rose is fuller-bodied with bruised apple characteristics, which is counterbalanced by pretty florality by the mountain rose apple. Enjoy this with the Short Rib Stew or Savory Puff Pastry.

Sip Some Cider
Have a great week! We’ll see you this weekend!
