We’re Moving! Last Month to taste on Alberta Street

March 1, 2019

Happy March Everyone!

It is with great excitement and a nostalgic bit of sadness that we announce this will be our last month with our tasting room located on NE Alberta Street. We’ve been coming into the shop to share wines with you in this location since we first opened the doors of cork in 2006. 13 Years! Wow, how time flies. Over that span, we’ve refocused on wines we make ourselves under the Viola label, but always had the continuity of familiar faces and many, many friends made on the corner of 29th & Alberta Street. Personally, I worked across the street at 2828 NE Alberta in 1984 for the better part of a year as well, so there are a lot of memories, as well as a lot of change, that I’ve witnessed on this corner, on this street and in our city. But change can be good, and it’s time for us to shift the winery’s true focus from an urban setting to one in the Columbia Gorge, where our hearts have been won over by the vines, by the landscape and by the many fine growers we’ve had the pleasure to work with over the past 7 years as Viola has grown into a full fledged venture.

We’ve made plans to move out of the building in early April, but have not yet secured a new tasting room location in the Gorge. A space we thought was going to work out perfectly in Mosier fell through right after we leased out the Alberta location. So, move we must, and fingers crossed something will open up for us out there before Memorial Day.

In the meantime, we’ve got one more month to make the most of it on Alberta Street and so we hope you will come and visit. Come taste the new releases. Come stock up on your favorites. Come take advantage of some special pricing we will have around the shop to allow you to help us avoid moving so many cases of wine when we leave at the end of the month.

Our March tasting room hours are listed below. We will be sure to keep you posted when we find new permanent digs. In the meantime, expect some pop-ups to happen in the coming months around Portland, at the winery here and perhaps at a few venues out in Hood River and Mosier before Summer arrives.

To our Viola Wine Club Members – if you have not collected your Winter releases yet, please come see us this month or let us know how to get them to you (delivery and shipping options available). For the next release this Summer, we will have pickup options on both sides of Portland and hopefully a Gorge option too. Look for details in an email shortly before the Memorial Day weekend.

Thank you for all of the many wonderful years of business on Alberta Street. It would have been nothing without you, our customers. And we can’t wait to share the next chapter with you in this ongoing wine adventure.

Stay tuned,

Darryl
