We are thrilled to announce the release of our new Pinot Noir Aged El Salvador. This coffee is a collaboration with the Menendez family in El Salvador and Sokol Blosser Winery in Dundee, Oregon. Both of these producers are absolutely committed to sustainability, quality, and cultivating a superior product. It should go without saying that the marriage of Sokol Blosser wine and Menendez family green coffee is nothing less than phenomenal.
To produce this coffee, we take the green coffee from the Finca Las Delicias farm in El Salvador and load it into the barrels used to age Sokol Blosser’s Pinot Noir. The wine-infused oak barrels then impart the green coffee with subtle hints of wine. The rich chocolate and nut notes of the Salvadoran coffee pair with the pungent Concord grape flavors of the wine and the result is a truly unique coffee. We recommend drinking this as an after-dinner coffee, paired with your favorite dessert!
Our Pinot Noir Aged El Salvador is a celebration of Oregon bounty and the relationships we’ve cultivated with our coffee-producing partners in El Salvador. This is a limited release coffee and is available to purchase in our online store, our cafe, or at the Sokol Blosser tasting room. For more on our partners on this project, see below.
About Finca Las Delicias: The Menendez family has been growing coffee in El Salvador for generations. The family patriarch, Miguel Menendez, is the third generation of his family to grow coffee, and his siblings, children, and grandchildren all work in this family run business. Together they own nine coffee farms and one coffee mill that readies all their coffees for export. Their farms span the range all the way from low elevation commodity coffee, to some of the best that the country has to offer.
Finca Las Delicias sits at the very highest elevation that coffee grows in El Salvador, at 1600 meters on Cerro las Ranas in the Apaneca-Ilamatapec mountain range in the western part of the country. There they produce some of their premier coffee lots, including Pacamara, Bourbon, and the new Peach varietal of coffee. The lot we aged in the Pinot Noir barrels is honey processed, where only the outer layer of the fruit is removed before drying on raised, African style beds.
About Sokol Blosser: Sokol Blosser Winery has been perfecting the art of Oregon Pinot Noir for nearly 45 years. With 120 acres of vineyards in the Dundee Hills, Sokol Blosser is committed to growing grapes organically and embracing sustainability in all winery operations. Being good to the earth – farming, buying and building through the lens of sustainability – is really about paying attention to and respecting the details. There is no other way to make great Pinot. It’s no mere coincidence that such practices have had the happy consequence of enhancing the excellence of Sokol Blosser’s Pinot Noir. In addition to the official recognition received for its environmental practices, Sokol Blosser has consistently won recognition for its quality wines.
