CIDER STYLE: PERRY
Perry, is uniquely made from 100% pears, rather than apples. Pear cider is made from pressed apples with the addition of pear juice.

Stemming from a deep rooted international history in England’s perry heartland (especially Herefordshire), perry can be light, refreshing and sometimes reminiscent of white wine.

The Northwest has a special connection to modern perry. Oregon & Washington grow some of the best (and nearly 90%) of the nations fresh pears. While not necessarily or exclusively crafted from traditional perry pear varieties, NW perry is gaining in popularity.

To help you taste why we have tucked a crushable, easy-to-love perry from Blossom Barn Cidery in Southern Oregon’s Applegate Valley in our Discover Styles club release.

CIDER STYLE: BARREL AGED
From the apple tree, back to the wood– barrel aging and cider go hand in hand. Barrel aged ciders can be robust and bold, with toasty oak notes and hints of whiskey or present more subtlety, integrating the complexity imparted from barrel aging neatly into the cider profile.

In Montana’s Bitteroot Valley, Western Cider crafts Hewe’s Rouge with Hewe’s Virginia Crab (a bittersharp apple) & Frequin Rouge (a French bittersweet apple). The blend spends three months in barrel and seven months in tank, emerging with complex, assertive apple skin notes. This estate offering is included in the Elevated Styles club box.

In the Greenwood neighborhood of Seattle, Washington, Greenwood Cider’s signature dry cider blend is aged for five months in whiskey barrels from Seattle’s Westland Distillery. This bright, fruity and dry cider is part of the not-to-be missed line up in our Discover Styles club box.
When you sign up for club you don’t need to do anything further to keep receiving curated ciders quarterly. Have questions? Just drop us a line. We’re happy to help anytime!
