Portland, OR (May 9, 2017) – Virtuous Pie, which gained immediate success after its Vancouver B.C. location opened in 2016, is set to open this June on SE Division Street in Portland’s Hosford-Abernethy neighborhood. The 1,900 square-foot fast-casual restaurant will serve a 100% plant-based menu of handcrafted pizzas and artisanal ice cream. This will mark Virtuous Pie’s first location outside of Canada.
“Portland was a natural fit for us. The team loves the city and visits often,” says Jim Vesal, Virtuous Pie’s Executive Chef. “Not only does Portland have a great food scene, but it has a great vegan scene as well–we knew we would feel right at home. We really want to show people that plant-based cooking has evolved and Portland is the perfect place with its forward-thinking, sustainable mindset and conscious dining habits.”
Virtuous Pie’s innovative menu will feature sustainable and locally-influenced food options in an inclusive and welcoming environment. The 100% plant-based pizzas will combine unique flavor pairings using house-made nut cheeses including cashew mozzarella, almond ricotta and non-GMO tofu feta. The restaurant will also offer a selection of dairy-free ice creams, all made in-house. Favorite flavors at Virtuous Pie’s Vancouver location include Coffee + Doughnuts, Double Chocolate + Salted Caramel, Hawaiian Vanilla, and Mint + Dark Chocolate.
In addition to the feel-good food, Virtuous Pie’s new location will partner with Portland’s Heart Coffee Roasters for a drip coffee and espresso program centered around house-made nut milks. Local craft beer, kombucha and wine will be available on tap and by the bottle or glass. House cocktails will be added to the menu in the months following the opening, along with brunch.
Inspired by Portland’s access to the great outdoors, Virtuous Pie worked with local designers Bright Designlab and Hammer and Hand to create a modern and visually stunning space. Using Pacific Northwest wood, materials and plants, the restaurant is warm, comfortable and inviting. Reclaimed Douglas Fir beams, custom wallpaper, and eclectic furniture add pops of color, pattern, and texture. The two-level restaurant will feature communal seating for larger groups and individual counter seating, along with lounge seating on the mezzanine.
Virtuous Pie is committed to connecting with the local community and being a loyal neighbor through events, volunteering, and collaborations. In Vancouver, the restaurant provides meal programs, food donations and cooking education for local charities and organizations such as the Pivot Foundation and Growing Chefs. Closer to the opening, Virtuous Pie will announce the Portland organizations with whom they will partner.
Virtuous Pie will combine sustainable, great tasting plant-based food, creative design, and exceptional service in a bright and casual environment. The restaurant, located at 1126 SE Division Street, will be open Sunday to Thursday from 8 am – 11 pm and Friday and Saturday from 8 am – 12 am for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with brunch to come.
