Urban Farmer Chef Matt Christianson to Participate in Plaza del Toro’s Upcoming Versus Dinner

February 8, 2017 by Food Dude

Chef Matt Christianson will face Chef Jose Salazar of Salazar Restaurant & Bar in a friendly cook-off competition on Friday, February 24 at 6 p.m.

PORTLAND, OR (February 8, 2017) – On Friday, February 24, Executive Chef Matt Christianson of Urban Farmer (525 SW Morrison Street), a modern steakhouse bringing sophisticated farm-to-table dining to Portland, will partake in the 21st edition of Plaza del Toro’s Versus Dinner Series. Chef Christianson will go head to head with Cincinnati-based Chef Jose Salazar from Salazar Restaurant & Bar at 6 p.m. at Plaza del Toro (105 SE Taylor Street).

In Plaza del Toro’s recurring series, each featured chef has a month to develop three innovative dishes incorporating three chosen ingredients. Chef Christianson and Chef Salazar are tasked to work with bone marrow, cabbage, and Iberico short ribs to create a three-course dinner, followed by dessert from Plaza Del Toro pastry chef Ashley Claybaugh. Guests will vote for the best dishes at the end of dinner, with event proceeds to go towards the winning chefs’ charity of choice.

Tickets are available for $90 per person and can be purchased here. For more information, visit www.plazadeltoropdx.com/versus or call Plaza del Toro at 503.764.9678.

About Plaza del Toro

Plaza del Toro is a private event space, gastronomic society, and modern test kitchen in Portland, Oregon’s Central Eastside Industrial District created by restaurateur John Gorham, chef/owner of Portland’s celebrated Toro Bravo, Tasty n Sons, Tasty n Alder, Mediterranean Exploration Company (MEC), and Shalom Y’all. Gorham envisioned a space where he and his staff could have unconstrained culinary creativity as they develop new recipes for his properties, as well as experiment with new and innovative dinner concepts inspired by the legendary Portland supper club that Gorham founded, Simpatica, and the gastronomic societies of San Sebastian, Spain. The beautiful 4,000-square-foot space can accommodate events of all kinds from a large-scale dinner for 100 guests to a cocktail party for 150. The beautifully renovated industrial space features an oyster bar, a professional DJ booth, and noise-dampening, double-paned, floor-to-ceiling windows offering views of passing trains. The kitchen boasts a large Combi oven and a six-foot grill with whole animal rotisserie inspired by Getaria, the mesquite grilling capital of Spain. Plaza del Toro also serves as home base for pastry chef Ashley Claybaugh who develops all Gorham properties dessert programs. For more information, contact inquiries@plazadeltoropdx.com.

If anything like their first location it will be the best coffee in the Beaverton/Hillsboro area. Original location is on SW SchollsFerry Road. Even better, it’s next door to Big’s Chicken.
