Grand opening celebration to include ribbon-cutting ceremony, live music, and more
|WHAT:||On Friday, October 29th at 8am, Trader Joe’s will officially open for business in Southwest Portland. The new store is located at 7215 SW Garden Home Road, in the Garden Home Marketplace, just outside of Raleigh Hills. It will be the fourth Trader Joe’s in Portland, the 9th Trader Joe’s in the greater metro area, and the 13th Trader Joe’s in the state of Oregon. Following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony, store Captain Mark Sakamoto (a 20-year veteran of the company) and the Trader Joe’s Crew will be on hand to welcome customers to their new neighborhood store, and the celebration is scheduled to continue throughout the day.|
The roughly 11,000 square-foot store will feature colorful artwork that pays tribute to area landmarks and local lore, including Mt. Hood, the historic railroads of Southwest Portland, the Alpenrose Dairy, and even the life-sized stuffed elephant that famously held court in the grocery store that occupied the building until 2019.
As a neighborhood grocery store, Trader Joe’s prides itself on hiring from the local community; roughly 95% of Crew Members at the new store are from the area. In addition, through the company’s longstanding Neighborhood Shares Program, the Southwest Portland Trader Joe’s will donate 100% of products that go unsold but remain fit to enjoy to a range of non-profit, community-based organizations, seven days a week.
