This program is bringing food justice and health equity to Portland

December 9, 2019

Fresh Food For All

“Such a relief” is how one Portland Farmers Market-goer and SNAP (formerly known as food stamps) participant described the effect of the Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) program on their life. By offering a $1 for $1 match at many of our markets, Double Up Food Bucks allows SNAP participants to bring home nutritious, local food to their tables that would be otherwise inaccessible.Double Up Food Bucks also keeps money in our local economy by supporting small family farmers and food producers (every $1 of SNAP spent at farmers markets can generate $1.79 in local economic activity!). We are so grateful to have this program, run by our charitable companion organization Farmers Market Fund, at many of our markets.

Double Up Food Bucks needs YOUR generosity to continue. Please consider supporting this life-changing program today!

What market staff have to say about Double Up Food Bucks

“Shoppers tell me this program increases how much fresh, quality produce they consume.  Double Up Food Bucks also promotes a sustainable food system by supporting our small local farms.”

-Lisa, Market Manager

“I’ve been grateful to the Double Up Food Bucks program for allowing many SNAP participants to become regulars at our market. Several shoppers were telling me recently that they saved just enough of their benefits throughout the month of November to allow them to shop for healthy, local produce for their holiday dinners.”

-David, Market Manager

Our Low-income Shoppers Need Your Support

Double Up Food Bucks relies on donations and grants to keep fresh, nutritious food accessible to everyone. We’re a third of the way to our fundraising goal and need your help to reach it! Please donate today to Farmers Market Fund via Willamette Week’s Give!Guide.

For each $10 you give, envision a family struggling to put enough food on the table arriving home with fresh fruits and vegetables from the farmers market vendor you also love.  Your gift allows them to Double Up and buy the food that SNAP alone cannot.

All donors will receive a free slice of pie from Lauretta Jean’s as well as a free loaf from Dave’s Killer Bread. Donors of $50 or more will be entered to win a year of free bread.
