City Market NW: Sunday August 16th 2-4pm
Vermouth is making a comeback: no longer relegated to a scant pour in a martini, this aromatized-fortified-wine-based beverage stands alone, or opens up endless cocktail mixing possibilities.
Historically, Italy’s Piemonte region is known as the cradle of vermouth. In antiquity, its robust wine production coupled with rich Alpine biodiversity provided the perfect climate to produce vini aromitizati, used as folk medicines, tonics, and cures. Does vermouth cure disease? That’s for you to decide. What we do know is that the bitter-sweet-herbaceousness of vermouth lives up to its status as an aperitif, stimulating the palate and helping you enjoy your meal.
Take a seat in the Nodoguro space (attached to our Hawthorne store) to sample the classic vermouths from the Carpano family, plus some more unusual Spanish and Italian items. Stay for a vermouth cocktail and small bites from Pastaworks.
