2019 i Clivi Schioppettino Venezia Giulia, IT – $30
Winemakers Ferdinando and Mario Zanusso, father and son duo, make this wine with 100% Schioppettino grapes (also known as Ribolla Nera) grown organically and fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks for 12 months.
This is the first vintage with these 50 year old grape vines, but Ferdinando founded i Clivi in the early 1990’s.
It has a bright ruby color and smells of cherry, strawberry and pepper. It’s medium bodied with pronounced acid and mineral salinity with juicy tannins. The wine is delicate and finishes with refreshing red fruits and spice.
The perfect light red to welcome fall in the PNW and to enjoy with your end of summer pizzas this week!
