Spring Menus, This week: Dan Balmer & Jazz Superband, More Outdoor Seating

April 27, 2021

Spring Menus are Coming!

Brunch, Happy Hour, Lunch and Dinner are all being overhauled for the new season. I got to see Chef Nate’s initial notes yesterday (on paper despite it being the 21st century), and it all looks fantastic.
HAPPY HOUR MENU LAUNCHES FIRST: WED, MAY 5
Chicken molé tacos, grilled flatbreads, beef belly sliders, fried calamari with bourbon pepper figs are a few things we’re adding next week!

Two great shows this week:

BROWN, COLLIGAN & GARLOW
Three of our favorite bandleaders are combining forces into one Tavern “superband.” Christopher Brown, George Colligan, and Ross Garlow are playing together in a show I’ve only seen them do once… and it’s great fun and bewildering musicianship.
DAN BALMER
AND CAMINHOS CRUZADOS
Portland legend Dan Balmer (toured with Dianne Schuur) brings his Brazilian jazz trio for a balmy, romantic evening on the Tavern patio. Just close your eyes with a mojito or caipirinha in your hand and imagine yourself in Ipanema. Yes, travel is possible.

About Friday’s New Restrictions – more outdoor tables / back patio covered / closed indoors

Who is the luckiest restaurateur in the unluckiest land? Although we must close our indoor seating, Governor Brown has increased outdoor capacity this morning from 50 to 100 seats for counties affected by this latest shutdown. At the end of last summer, I ordered 7 more outdoor tables from our manufacturer and, by pure coincidence, they arrived in Portland last Friday and will be installed Thursday, just before the indoor shutdown takes place. Also, I haven’t told anybody this but I ordered a second clear tarp for the back patio which I wasn’t going to use as long as we could entertain guests indoors. Now that we’ve lost indoor seating, I am hoping to have our back patio covered by the middle of next week.
