Gamay All May
We’ll be drinking lots of Gamay this Month

Check out our feature for this month; A selection of Gamay noir, some from near, and some from afar.
Red, rosé and sparkling!
Some rare and hard to find, some perfect for stocking your weeknight supply

Domaine Migot “Méthode Traditionelle Brut Rosé,” Lorraine, France NV

  • $26/bottle
  • Style: Sparkling Dry Rosé
  • Grape Varieties: Gamay
  • Appellation: Lorraine
  • Bottle Size: 750mL

Easily argued to be one of the best values we’ve encountered in a while, this is a beautifully textured and thirst-quenching bottle of sparkling. It is made from organically grown Gamay usingthe méthode traditionelle. it hits with raspberries, and white currants with just enough graham cracker crumb to keep it on the savory side.

.
Stedt Wines, “Impulse Gamay Noir,” Jubilee Vineyard, Eola-Amity Hills, Oregon 2019

  • $148/ 6-pack     $26/ Bottle
  • Style: A most joyful, dry red wine
  • Grape Varieties: Gamay
  • Appellation: Jubilee Vineyard – Eola-Amity Hills
  • Bottle Size: 750mL

Chris Lubberstedt, joined by his wife Ja’Nien, established STEDT wines in 2015. With over twenty years working in wine, he has a clear view of how he wants to approach his winemaking, and it shows. The wines are, clean, fresh, and intentional. Most importantly, they are delicious. Chris fermented this single vineyard Gamay in open-top puncheons, then barrel-aged it for eight months before bottling. He likes to call this a vivacious red, and describes it in terms of red fruits, savory herbs, cedar, and peppery spice. Cheers!

Yohan Lardy, “Les Michelons,” Moulin-a-Vent, France 2018

  • $100/ 4-pack     $27/bottle
  • Style: Dry red wine
  • Grape Varieties: Gamay
  • Appellation: Les Michelons Vineyard – Moulin-a-Vent
  • Bottle Size: 750mL

Notes from the importer: The next generation, son of Lucien Lardy, Yohan started his estate in Moulin a Vent in 2012 in the lieu-dit “Les Michelons” with 5 acres of old vines planted in 1903, 1911 and 1950 on red granite sandy soil with seams of manganese (iron mineral). Organic farming and slow winemaking cold soak fermentation under native yeasts, aging in neutral oak barrels for 9 months before bottling. Gamay at its finest! Red-black fruit, cherries, pepper and crushed rock
