Head Ice Cream Maker Tyler Malek Works With Local Portland and Lake Oswego Schools To Bring One Of Salt & Straw’s Most Inventive Menus To Life
(Portland, OR – March 26, 2018) – Salt & Straw Ice Cream celebrates the limitless creativity of their youngest collaborators this April with the return of the Inventor Series. Each spring, Salt & Straw works with local elementary schools across Portland and Lake Oswego to curate this set of five unique flavors. Students dream up and submit their wildest ideas, and Head Ice Cream Maker Tyler Malek selects five flavors created by students to bring to life in the Salt & Straw kitchen. This year marks the very first Lake Oswego flavor, selected from Forest Hills Elementary. Salt & Straw will open their newest scoop shop in Lake Oswego this spring! From Leomon-Lime Slime to The Great British Rhubarb Ginger Crumble, the five flavors are available locally at Portland scoop shops April 6 through May 3. Ice Cream Inventors Series
While most of our monthly menus come straight from the brilliant minds of our in-house ice cream designers, once a year we turn the flavor creation over to some of the best inventors we know: kids! This year, we again teamed up with elementary schools adjacent to our scoop shops to create a delicious lineup of limited-edition flavors inspired by the cravings, dreams, and childhood memories of our communities’ young collaborators. These one-of-a-kind combinations of ice creams and delicious additions push the boundaries of flavor fantasy, bringing a kid’s-eye-view to dessert that you need to eat to believe. At each school, we team up with teachers and parent organizations to make our annual Ice Cream Inventing “Assignment” fun and rewarding for the students we work with—and because of the amazing work of these students and the great flavors they dream up, Salt & Straw is able to donate a portion of proceeds from these ice cream flavors right back to the schools that invented them!
