Posted July 8, 2017

Salt & Straw celebrates National Ice Cream Day Sunday, July 16 with random giveaways throughout the day including free pints, T-shirts and tasting flights at all scoop shops

PORTLAND, Ore. (July 7, 2017) – Salt & Straw Ice Cream, the Portland-based, family-run ice cream company known for their taste provoking, imaginative ice cream creations, will celebrate National Ice Cream Day on Sunday, July 16th with a day full of ice cream surprises at all scoop shops to show appreciation for their ice cream loving community. Prizes include fun things like T-shirts, tasting flights, ice cream scoopers, hats, pints and one big prize of a free shipment of ice cream, anywhere in the United States.
Celebrate National Ice Cream Month throughout July with Salt & Straw’s latest seasonal menu, the return of the beloved Berries Series featuring ice creams inspired by best of summer berries with unexpected flavor combinations. Flavors such as Goat Cheese Marionberry Habanero and Meyer Lemon Buttermilk make this one of the most anticipated seasonal menus every year.
During the past six years, Salt & Straw has become known for its deliciously interesting handmade, small batch ice cream made using the best local, organic and sustainable ingredients, with wholly unique menus in each city where they have scoops shops. Everything is made from scratch in their local kitchens including ingredients like caramel slightly burned to perfection and carefully ribboned in, hand-poured gummy bears (that are crafted to freeze superbly), smoked cherries, candied olives, diced blue cheese, malted-salted cookie dough, and on, and on! Their menu of creative classic flavors like Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper and Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons, are joined by seasonal flavor menus that rotate every four weeks and are unique to each city where they make ice cream.

Portland July Berries Menu

Portland Creamery’s Goat Cheese Marionberry Habanero
Back by popular polite discourse for the fifth summer in a row. This flavor has a fierce fanclub (people start calling in December to make sure that it’s coming back…or else). It starts with Portland Creamery’s “Sweet Fire” goat cheese from much loved, multiply-awarded, and freely roaming herd of goats in Molalla, Oregon. This smooth, creamy chevre is churned into a tart, creamy chevre ice cream that is ribboned with a thick, blazing, so sweet marionberry jam that has been infused with fiery habaneros.
Meyer Lemon Buttermilk with Blueberries
This flavor starts with a Meyer lemon ice cream that is round and warming, not tart and acidic. Buttermilk adds a little sweet-tart, and more roundness. For added relishing, blueberries are whirled in to deliver pops of juicy-sweet summer-ness. Kick back. Eat this. Kick more back.
Birthday Cakes & Blackberries
The freedom to eat cake in your ice cream. It’s declared that this ice cream is your official holiday from adulthood. It tastes like freaking frosting, the better to feature the chunky hunks of three-vanilla cake and swirls of homemade blackberry jam. Whirled with technicolor sprinkles, this flavor is dedicated to the discerning palates of children who know that sometimes cake ice cream is exactly what’s called for.
Ancient Heritage’s Fresh Cheese & Strawberries
A “cheesecake-y” ice cream with a slight ribbon of housemade strawberry jam. This flavor features SE Portland’s Ancient Heritage Dairy, who are building cheese-aging-caves in the heart of the city. This ice cream uses their fresh cow’s cheese, Ava.
Wild-Foraged Berry Sherbet
Fresh berries are folded into a bit of cream and sugar, popped it into our ice cream maker, allowing the amazing berries just do their thing. These berries were found by Tom, the master forager behind Northwest Wild Foods, thriving in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest’s mountain slopes. Wild mountain blueberries and blackberries and whatever other berries he finds. Tom gives as many of these berries as he can and then that’s that.
