Enjoy $1 scoops of Salt & Straw’s Beet Red Velvet Cake while supporting Zenger Farm’s mission to provide access to good food for all
PORTLAND, Ore. (August 8, 2018) – Salt & Straw’s strong community roots and dedication to giving back drives everything they do, from collaborating with artisans and farmers, to actively supporting local schools and raising awareness for issues like childhood hunger, and equal rights. During the month of August, Salt & Straw partners with local Portland farms to put the spotlight on their unique ethos and practices to create their Farmers Market Series. This Sunday, August 12th, Salt & Straw will host a $1 scoops pop-up at 19th Hole, Hotel Deluxe from 3-5 p.m serving up scoops of their Beet Red Velvet Cake, one of the five flavors from the Farmers Market Series. This rich and decadent (and vegan!) flavor is made with beets sourced from Zenger Farm, a local working urban farm that focuses on educating urban youth about the importance of farming, food, and environmental stewardship. All proceeds from Salt & Straw’s $1 scoops pop-up will go to Zenger Farm, supporting their mission to provide access to good food for all.
“Zenger Farms is one of our longest local partners here in Portland and we’re excited to host this special pop-up to support their mission to bringing food access and education to food-deprived areas here in Portland. I think food security in Portland is the biggest issue facing our city, we have the best restaurants in the world and some of the most hungry children in the country. Zenger farms is changing that in HUGE ways and directly impacting thousands of lives in this city. Working with this Urban Farm is my favorite project all year, this year, we worked with the farmers to use beets in a non-dairy ice cream, making a Beet Red Velvet Cake ice cream it’s probably the most fun way to eat your vegetables!”, says Head Ice Cream Maker Tyler Malek.
