June 5, 2015 (Portland, OR) – The donut-loving employees at Portland creative agency Roundhouse have sampled and spoken: Blue Star Donuts is tops in the competitive world of Portland specialty donuts.
In celebration of National Donut Day, the company held its first Donut Deathmatch this morning. 70 employees sampled dozens of donuts from seven Portland shops, including Blue Star Donuts, Pip’s Original, Voodoo Doughnut, Tulip Pastry Shop, Helen Bernhard Bakery, Tonalli’s Donuts & Cream and Delicious Donuts. Using a scorecard, they rated each donut-maker on several factors: Taste, Texture and Swagger.
Blue Star Donuts claimed first place by a slim margin, followed by Helen Bernhard Bakery in second place. Pip’s Original got the final spot on the donut podium.
Blue Star Donuts will receive a custom-designed award from Roundhouse on Monday.
“It was a very tight competition, but in the end, Blue Star Donuts proved to be the all-around winner, with consistently high marks across every category – Taste, Texture & Swagger. But we can’t lie – we loved them all,” said Joe Sundby, Roundhouse executive creative director and founder.
