NW Portland’s Most Invisible, Iconic New Restaurant Scores its First Mention in Willamette Week
For the very first time since they opened in late 2012, Rae’s Lakeview Lounge has finally been mentioned in the pages of Willamette Week. In the current “Cheap Life” issue of WW, Rae’s is called out in the ‘Boozing’ section of the cover article, remarking on Rae’s nightly $1 pints of Rainier beer after 9pm, as well as their “bottomless” Weekend Mimosas for $5 per person every Saturday and Sunday morning until 2pm.
Although WW headquarters on NW Quimby stands a mere eight blocks from Rae’s, “Portland’s Newsweekly” had never once printed the name of the locally owned and operated start-up who has transformed the corner of NW 27th & Upshur into one of the most successful new neighborhood icons in Northwest.
“Scratch-made, honest, quality food, an entirely unique concept, Phantogram or the White Stripes playing on the sound system, we couldn’t be a more home-grown, DIY Portland bar and restaurant,” said Todd Morey, the creator of Rae’s food, drink, style and approach. “We definitely had to wonder all this time whether it was perhaps some kind of disdain for us, rather than just an oversight of journalism.”
At Rae’s Lakeview Lounge, where there is neither a lake nor a view, you can sip a $1 Rainier draft on the back porch every night after 9. And every weekend morning after 9, you can get $5 bottomless mimosas till 2 in the afternoon. Choose your poison, choose your meridian, and toast the parking lot.
Another recent nod came from the NW production team of NBC’s Grimm, who filmed a brief location shot in the Rae’s back parking lot in early March. The episode, “Mishipeshu” (no.418) is scheduled to air on Friday 17 April at 8pm.
