Quarantine Dinner Series – Castagna Classics

October 13, 2020

Greetings! Fall is definitely here and cooler weather screams out for comfort food.

We found ourselves craving some of the traditional, classic old Café Castagna dishes. Grab a box this weekend and have dinner like it’s 2007!

Classic Café Castagna Menu
Friday, October 16th and Saturday, October 17th

Butter lettuce salad with chives, tarragon, and vinaigrette Royale
Cauliflower soup with pancetta and chives
Shoestring potatoes
Grilled pork chop with sautéed corn and sweet peppers
Butterscotch pot de crème

Wine Pairing Bottles

Schaller Sparkling Chablis, France NV
A blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Aligote. Bright and citrusy with tons of acid and a long classic toasty champagne finish. We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to offer a sparkling Chablis!  $33.00

Cantine Lonardo ‘Grecomusch’ Italian Coastal White
100% Roviello Bianco. Called Grecomusch by the locals, Cantine Lonardo is the only producer actually marketing a wine made from this grape. Almond, citrus, beeswax. Enough weight to hold up to a pork chop.  $34.00

T. Ezio Piedmont, Italy 2018
Orange WineSkin contact orange wine from Arneis and Malvasia. I love orange wines with pork chops because they have the tannin and texture of reds but the spice and freshness of whites. That spice, in particular, is perfect with charred meat and peppers.  $42.00

Terenzuolo, Tuscany 2018 RED Vermentino
A SUPER RARE red Vermentino! Vermentino is a well known Italian white grape, but in this part of Italy, the grape has mutated into a red. It produces a wine that tastes like red Sangiovese but with the freshness of white Vermentino. This is a can’t miss  $28.00

Cantine Lonardo, Taurasi, Italy 2013 Aglianico
Real treat here (with some age). Taurasi is a small region in southern Italy and it’s often called the ‘Barolo of the south.’ Cantina Lonardo is my favorite producer in the region. Black fruit, clove, volcanic ash, pine needle. Should be double the price!  $52.00
