Portland Welcomes a New and Exciting South American Restaurant to the City
Argentine and Chilean Food Dominate at this Fun and Family-Friendly Eatery
PORTLAND, OR – July 6, 2015 — With great anticipation, LeChon, Portland’s newest concept restaurant, is scheduled to open on August 15, 2015 in the historic Smith Block Building on Naito Parkway. The restaurant is conveniently located directly across from the Esplanade with inviting views of the river and nearby the coming James Beard Market.
According to Executive Chef Jaco Smith, “The vision is to provide a casual, open air, family dining Argentine and Chilean restaurant different than anything Portland has ever seen. Far from your typical city restaurant, LeChon diners will feel almost as if they’ve been transported to South America, where they are served the traditional cuisine reflecting that region.”
With two full kitchens, one completely outdoors, and two custom-made Argentinean outdoor grills where 90% of the cooking will occur, expect exceptionally wood-fired meats and vegetable dishes with herbaceous sauces (chimichurri) and flavorful spices (garlic, saffron, roasted peppers and fennel). Exotic dishes such as cazuelas, which is Spanish for “cooking pots,” will also be served, expressing the traditional foods found in the South American regions of Chile, Argentina and Patagonia. Smith says, “I am looking forward to providing Portland with more international cuisine, giving diners something new and adventurous to look forward to while still utilizing the state’s vast local resources.”
Saunter in from a walk on the waterfront and enjoy the rustic dinners, where smokey charred meats are the showcase. Gather round the firepits, and watch as the cooking takes place on the grills directly in front of you — enjoy the exhibition kitchen entertainment or just relish in the riverfront views. Executive Chef Smith will be at the helm designing a menu stock full of affordable and authentic small plate offerings (much like tapas), providing guests the opportunity to discover many new foods and fall in love with old favorites again and again. And the thoughtfully selected items on the children’s menu will surely delight younger crowds.
Enjoy either of the two bars (one outdoors and one inside) spotlighting an extensive wine list from Chile and Argentina. Savor cocktails created to reflect these South American regions, or sample local wines and beers from six rotating taps. There is outdoor dining in the front of the restaurant, and a large patio that is scheduled to open next spring and a large atrium available for banquets accommodating 30-40 people.
The warm, friendly and colorful restaurant that reflects the vibrant menu, features two massive salt-water fish tanks that rival even large public aquariums, equally fascinating for kids and grownups alike. LeChon is designed by Shannon Ponciano with the grills and the aquariums as the restaurant’s focal points; the décor is inviting full of colorful tile and fabrics you’d expect to find in South America.
LeChon will be open for light breakfast, lunch and dinner, and with one of Portland’s longest “Happy Hours”, it is sure to become everyone’s favorite escape.
LeChon 111 Naito Parkway, Hours: Breakfast Daily 7 am-11 am, Lunch Daily 11 am-3 pm, Dinner Daily until 10 pm, and Happy Hour Mon-Fri from 3-6pm and 9pm-close.
