Portland Spirit Starts Crowdfunding Campaign To Restore The Portland Elk Statue

September 4, 2020

Portland’s beloved elk sculpture needs our help!

The David Thompson Elk Fountain has been one of Portland’s most unique features as visitors and locals enter downtown. Standing for over a century it has served as a beacon of a time long gone.

The granite base of the sculpture was significantly damaged and has been removed along with the bronze statue. The statue itself was not damaged and is being stored in an undisclosed location.

A representative of the Portland Spirit stated “Our goal is to raise enough money to help with the restoration or reconstruction of a new base. The statue may also need to be moved to a new location which would require a significant investment. We will be donating all money received to the Portland Parks Foundation. Please join us in supporting the statues safe return to downtown.”

Also stating “Here at the Portland Spirit, we are deeply invested in maintaining the beautiful landmarks of our city. We also understand the importance of upholding our community’s rich and unique culture. We are looking forward to welcoming you to one of our cruises very soon.”
