The Kids Cook at the Market series is coming up next week and running throughout the summer. The program lets junior chefs age seven to eleven cultivate their culinary skills and experience a cornucopia of farm-fresh foods. At these classes, which take place at the Saturday PSU Market, kids learn about the seasonality of food, meet local farmers and gain first-hand experience preparing ingredients purchased fresh at the market.
Classes are taught by Arielle Clark of the Portland Kitchen Inc., and Julie Merry of The Merry Kitchen and include a market shopping trip, hands-on instruction and recipes to take home so students can share what they learn with family and friends. The full class schedule:
Saturday July 2: Veggie Sushi
Saturday July 9: Strawberry Freezer Jam
Saturday July 16: no class
Saturday July 23: Pasta from Scratch
Saturday July 30: Peach Crisp
