Portland Coffee Roasters will donate $1 for every 12-ounce retail bag or 1-pound bulk purchase of the Holiday Roast to Food 4 Farmers, a nonprofit organization that supports coffee-growing communities in Latin America by cultivating local solutions to food insecurity. By collaborating with coffee cooperatives and other local partners in Colombia, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Mexico, Food 4 Farmers aims to solve the unique challenges each community faces in achieving healthy and sustainable livelihoods for thousands of farming families. The goal is to raise $11,000 for the organization from sales of the Holiday Roast.
“A decrease in coffee demand is causing unstable and unpredictable green bean pricing. This, in turn, produces a negative domino effect on all parties in the supply chain. Coffee growers and their families are facing the challenges of job insecurity and a scarcity of basic resources, at the same time food prices continue to rise,” explained Eva Attia, Portland Coffee Roasters Vice President. “Food security is a critical issue in coffee-growing regions, and the COVID-19 pandemic has intensified the urgency of ensuring coffee growers and their families have sufficient and nutritious food. We invite our customers and business partners to join us in giving back to our growers’ communities through the purchase of this year’s Holiday Roast; our hope is that together, we will raise an amount that results in positive change in their lives.”
