Portland Cider’s Latest Win

July 26, 2021

Portland Cider Co. Once Again Declared Best Cider at Sunset International Wine Competition

CLACKAMAS, Ore. — July 26, 2021 — Portland Cider Co. has once again claimed top category honors at the prestigious 2021 Sunset International Wine Competition with its Sorta Sweet Cider, taking home Double Gold, Best of Show, and Best of Class awards in the hard cider category. This is the second consecutive year that Sorta Sweet has swept these three medals, a testament to the consistently high quality of the product. Silver medals were also awarded to Portland Cider Co.’s Bubbly Brut, Kinda Dry and Blueberry Bourbon Basil ciders.

“We didn’t get into this business for the awards, but I admit it’s deeply gratifying to be recognized by Sunset’s elite judging panel for the care that we put into each batch of our cider,” said Lynda Parrish, co-owner of Portland Cider Co. “Our secret ingredient has always been our Portland Cider team. We have the very best in the industry, and these awards are evidence of that.”

The company’s most award-winning cider, Sorta Sweet is, as advertised, semi-sweet, refreshing and effervescent, balancing the higher levels of natural residual sugars with just the right amount of tartness. Available year-round, Sorta Sweet offers a fresh finish that tastes like biting into a crisp Northwest-grown apple. It has won nearly 20 medals, including Double Golds from Sip NW’s Best of the Northwest and the Cidercraft Awards. Portland Cider Co. has earned more than 100 awards for its products and taprooms over the last eight years, including Best Cider House and Best Cidery in Portland.

The Sunset competition received a record number of wine and cider entries this year that were blind tasted by a panel of judges composed of winemakers, journalists and industry experts. Judging took place from June 8 to June 10, 2021, and winners will be featured in an upcoming special digital issue of Sunset Magazine.
