Picks for the Cooler Evenings from Portland Bottle Shop!
The Weekly What’s Up – 8.19.21!
I am loving the cooler weather this week. While I do not anticipate this continuing for too long, I will nonetheless enjoy it. With these cooler temperatures, it’s a great time to pop open a nice bottle of red. With all the heat this summer, pink has taken top pick, but with a little chill in the air we should revisit some wonderful reds. We’ve picked a few below, along with an amazing dark beer which is also a great option for a cool evening. Enjoy!!
Sainte Croix “Le Fournas”
After selling Evesham Wood, renown winemaker Russ Raney moved to France to discover and import small, independent wines to Oregon. Since then, he’s been bringing in delicious wines and this is one of them. Dominated by Grenache, it is a subtle, berry driven wine with hints of earth and rusticity. Great find at a great price. Grab one see and what Russ has been up to in his “retirement”.
Fremont’s Dark Star
Fremont makes amazing stouts and this Imperial Oatmeal Stout is one for the books. Dark and intense, yet balanced. It comes in at only 8% ABV, which for an imperial is pretty reserved. This is the perfect beer for these cooler evenings. While we’ve got a break in the heat, grab yourself a dark brew and dream of the cooler months ahead.
After the sudden loss of their father, these two brothers stepped in to take the reins and have been crushing it ever since. One takes care of the vineyard while the other works in the cellar. Both are very hands off and allow the vines and wines to speak for themselves. This dark, briary red is laced with herbal and tobacco notes. Dark blackberry with hints of licorice throughout. A wonderful wine to pair with grilled meats or charcuterie board. Delicious.
