Monday August 7 a group of 26 cutting edge Oregon winemakers will host the trade from 1:00-4:00 and the public from 5:00-8:00 and pour a selection of their wines.
Evolution, metamorphosis, vanguard, new epoch, version 3. Starting around 2007 a new generation of winemakers have emerged in Oregon informed by the natural wine movement, not dogmatic in approach, but each pursuing an individualistic style. The 25 members of the Oregon Now group make wines from over 30 different grape varietals and in styles that include red, white, pink, orange, petillant naturel, Methode Champenoise, extended skin contact, white grapes as red wine and more. Aging vessels include oak barrique, puncheon, foudre, accacia wood, steel and cement tanks, cement eggs, and clay amphora. Pinot Noir maintains a central place but amongst tremendous diversity. Regions that have inspired their wines include Burgundy, Alsace, Loire Valley, Beaujolais, Auvergne, Jura, Northern Rhone, Southern Rhone, Languedoc-Roussillon, Southwest France, white Bordeaux, Champagne, Piedmont, Liguria, Puglia, SudTirol, Friuli, Slovenia, Mosel, Rheingau, Pfalz, Kremstal, Kamptal, Burgenland and the Douro but the search for Oregon terroir always remains in the fore.
Oregon Now is a group of artisan scale, boot strapping winemakers using minimalist, natural techniques with sustainable/organic/biodynamic fruit to expand the Oregon wine territory. The new face of Oregon wine. People following in the tradition of wineries like Eyrie, Evesham Wood and Cameron, opposed to a multinational corporate takeover of Oregon viticulture, and creating a bountiful future.
