September is also Hunger Action Month™ when America takes action to fight hunger in our communities.  All month long, you have the opportunity to make an impact on our effort to feed more Americans than ever before. Help us raise awareness by making donations or volunteering so we can solve hunger together. Every action feeds the human spirit.

Each month 260,000 people access a food pantry in Oregon and Clark County, Washington, and one third of them are children.  Our goal for 2019 is to raise 60,000 meals to help feed thousands of people struggling with hunger in our community.  Since its inception, this Portland event has raised more than 1 million meals to help fight hunger.  After the teams construct their masterpieces, each structure will be judged by the Portland Canstruction® jury and awards will be given for Best Meal, Structural Ingenuity, Best Use of Labels, Best Original Design, and the Golden SPAM Award.  For more information, visit www.canstructionpdx.org.

About Canstruction®: Canstruction®is a 501(c) (3) charity committed to ending hunger by hosting the most unique food charity in the world. It is a design/build competition held in cities throughout the world.  Portland is one of more than 200 cities around the world taking part in the international competition, which has donated more than 20 million pounds of food to local hunger programs since its founding in 1992.

About Oregon Food Bank:  Oregon Food Bank works to eliminate hunger and its root causes…because no one should be hungry. Oregon Food Bank believes that hunger starves the human spirit, that communities thrive when people are nourished, and that everyone deserves healthy and fresh food. Oregon Food Bank helps feed the human spirit of 740,000 people through a food distribution network of 21 regional food banks serving Oregon and Clark County, Washington. Oregon Food Bank also leads statewide efforts to increase resources for hungry families and to eliminate the root causes of hunger through public policy, local food systems work, nutrition and garden education, health care screening and innovative programming.
