Nov 2: Smith Hosts Tea Drunk Dinner with Chef Karl Holl

October 14, 2019

Get “Tea Drunk” with Smith Teamaker & Chef Karl Holl

Smith Teamaker’s Head Teamaker Ravi Kroesen teams up with Chef Karl Holl for a tea-centric dinner event at the company’s SE Portland Tasting Room & Headquarters on November 2, 2019

WHAT:

“Tea Drunk is a feeling of euphoria achieved when consuming an exceptional amount of quality tea in one sitting. So much so, you can reach an almost meditative state, where caffeine and tea begin to affect time and place.” – Ravi Kroesen, Head Teamaker

On Saturday, November 2nd, join Smith’s Head Teamaker Ravi Kroesen and Portland Monthly’s 2018 Chef of the Year Karl Holl as they collaborate on an exceptional dinner event, aptly named “Tea Drunk,” inspired by the season’s fall harvest and tea gardens around the world.

For the event, Smith will transform their SE Portland tasting room into a restaurant for a lively evening showcasing the interesting techniques Chef Holl has uncovered while cooking with Smith—including herbal butter infusions, tea brines and tea spiced granolas and more. Guests will enjoy bites such as Ya Shi Xiang (Chinese Dan Cong Oolong) cured duck breast with polenta and ground cherry and plates such as a Root Vegetable Salad with burnt beets, savory tea granola, quince vinaigrette and Chai Spiced Pork Loin with matsutake mushrooms, Mountain Rose apples, winter squash, cider jus.

The menu will be complemented by a line-up of special teas and non-alcoholic offerings prepared by Kroesen and his celebrated team of teamakers. Pours include teas selected during recent travels to origin such as Forever Fragrance, a vibrant tea that’s grown from a white tea cultivar yet processed with green techniques, and a fresh autumn harvest Jade Mountain Oolong sourced exclusively for this special event. Other beverage offerings include a refreshing sparkling kombucha that drinks so clean it’s like enjoying a glass of sparkling Namasake and a warming Mulled Hibiscus crafted using a complex combination of hibiscus and warming spices like cinnamon, clove and cardamom. They will conclude the evening with a sneak peek of a brand-new turmeric herbal infusion poured tableside over a scoop of housemade ginger snap ice cream for a tea take on the Italian affogato.

Tickets are limited. This is an alcohol-free event. Come get tea drunk with us.
