Nothing to open on Christmas

December 10, 2019

There are two types of gifters this time of year. Those that have the patience to wrap a gift and put it under the tree to be opened on Christmas and those who immediately give you your gift to be opened weeks before Christmas. The sentiment is sweet, as they are so genuinely excited to see your reaction they can’t wait until Christmas. The only problem is, then you don’t have anything to open on Christmas. This is my experience at least as, although greatly loved by my family, they stopped giving me gifts after I passed a certain age. The only gifts I have to open are from my girlfriend Mallory and she is the latter of the two gifters. As I write this I am sitting in a new robe, a Christmas gift from Mallory.

Mallory and I started a tradition where every Christmas we gift each other a tree ornament that represents a significant moment that year. We alternate turns and this will be our third Christmas doing so. The first year we went on a few whale watching trips so Mallory gave me a whale. Last year, we got a community garden plot together, so I gave her a carrot. This year (yes, in Mallory style I’ve already opened it) she gave me a berlu ornament. I guess it’s fair that she gave me this one a bit early so we can enjoy it on the tree.

Personalized gift cards are available for purchase year round and, for the rest of 2019, newsletter subscribers will receive a 10% discount on gift cards purchased. Please direct gift card inquiries to info@berlupdx.com

Reservations for New Year’s Eve and January are available through Tock.

This has been the most humbling year of my life and I could not have made it through without the support of my friends, family, and YOU…so thank you.

I hope you all get to share this holiday season with loved ones and remember, as my Pops and many Hallmark cards say, “It’s about the presence, more than the presents.”
