I’m writing to share new updates about Portland Farmers Market as we continue to adapt to the COVID-19 crisis. As, you know, access to fresh, nutritious food is more vital than ever, and the livelihood of our region’s farmers depends on being able to sell the crops they harvest.
We launched a new resource on our website today to help customers connect with our farmers and food producers as an alternative to coming to the market in person. While we’ve taken extra measures to provide a safe place to shop, we understand that some people are unable to come to the market in person, and we want to make sure we can still offer fresh, local food options to everyone.
The resource, https://www.portlandfarmersmarket.org/vendor-sales/, is our page for helping customers arrange pickups, deliveries and other arrangements with dozens of our vendors. We will be updating this page regularly (at least daily for now), adding new vendors, and incorporating new features to make the process easier for both our producers and customers.
The Portland Farmers Market at PSU is currently scheduled to be open again this Saturday with special safety measures in place, including larger spaces between vendor booths, extra cleaning, and handwashing stations. We’re also asking that people send just one representative for a household, and not to linger once their purchases are complete.
We have found over the past few weekends that the success of our efforts is dependent upon the respectful cooperation of our shoppers and vendors, and the market has been a great place to shop in the open air for fresh products that have been minimally handled and never left unattended.
