PORTLAND – A new bar-lounge called Lantern will open in the space formerly occupied by Oso Market at 726 SE Grand in Portland. The team opening the new bar includes the team behind Lake Oswego Asian-fusion restaurant Aji Tram and the former manager of Uptown Liquor.
The group is led by Eric Mann, owner of Aji Tram Restaurant x Bar. The space will be rebranded and reopened as Lantern, a cocktail lounge serving French-Vietnamese inspired cuisine. Expect Vietnamese flavors paired with French technique. Mann will work as Operations Manager while Uptown Liquor manager Will Storey will be General Manager.
“Cocktails will be the centerpiece.” Storey said. “Lantern will play to your senses. It’ll be like turning off from the streets of Portland into an alley bar in Vietnam- rich smells, a warm and energetic ambiance and intense flavors.” Lantern will cater to a late night crowd that goes with the theme of the neighborhood, opening in the late afternoon and staying open late.
The food menu will center around fresh ingredients including as much locally sourced product as possible. The team is also excited about the late night menu that will take over after 10pm that will include some very quirky and unique items that you won’t find anywhere else around town.
An opening date is forecast for mid to late November 2016.
Oso Market owner Colin Howard worked with Mann and Storey to transfer the space to Lantern. “Holly and I really wanted to see a restaurant built on quality and unique customer experience move into the space that was our professional home for three years,” Howard said. “We are excited by what the team at Lantern have coming and know it will add a great feel to the rapidly expanding SE Industrial neighborhood.”
“We’re really excited about the location and the group of neighbors” Storey said. “This neighborhood continues to thrive and produce some awesome spots that customers really love and we’re really looking to be a part of that.”
Other staff includes Santino Monteblanco (Executive Chef) and Zach Edwards (Bar Manager).
