With patio doors open all summer, our entire crew is meeting Monday morning to pull every bottle and glass off the bar, pull apart every cooking device and every refrigerator (9 in the kitchen alone) and more…
Although we will be done by mid afternoon, we will be closed through the evening for prep and health/safety (refrigeration) reasons. See you Tuesday!

Wine Education for Everyone
The most successful (and fun) wine education effort I have ever been a part of started off by inviting a few customers of Uptown Billiards to sit in as I taught my staff about wine. It began in 2014 as a simple two-night “Wine for Beginners” course in our dining room (with everyone begging for more) and wrapped up in 2019 in a 2500sf hall with 60-75 guests sitting around a make-shift classroom of pool tables and ping pong tables listening to winemakers from around the world. We would “sell out” classes in 45 minutes and the lessons were magical.
Wine for Beginners, A Tour of Italy, The Value of Time (same bottle, different vintages), Southern French Table Wines, Advanced Food Pairing, Small Vineyards of Tuscany. Cabernet Across Five Continents. Bordeaux for Beginners.
Featuring Wine-Friendly, (and when appropriate) Unique Regional Appetizers
Chef Nate and I agree that we’re going to close on the occasional Sunday evening for a while to get my staff trained up. He and his team are going to prepare appetizers for the staff and guests, and on an evening we are concentrating on a part of the world, Nate will research and offer up some regional dishes for each locale’s cuisine. Nothing like dinner, just some tapas-sort-of plates that can be munched over the course of a couple hours.
We anticipate starting on November 7th with “Wine for Beginners.” Varietals, terroir, glassware, old world, new world, winemaking 101, basic pairing. For the staff, it’s designed to help them understand our 13-page wine list. For the guests, it’s much the same. There will be wine to enjoy throughout. This means (no drinking on the job) that my service staff will be in their seats and our support staff will be running the show. This class nor any class is intended as a “luxury affair.” It is serious wine education… that happens to include great wine and some good food.
