New Deal Distillery’s new Pear Brandy was awarded three medals at the prestigious 2018 American Distilling Institute Craft Spirits Judging.
The results of the American Distilling Institute (ADI) 2018 Judging have been announced, and New Deal Pear Brandy was awarded three medals: Best in Class for all submitted brandies, Best in Category for an Eau de Vie, and the Gold Medal for Craft Pear Brandies.
Oregon Grown, Portland Made.
New Deal Distillery is honored to partner with Pereday Orchard in the Historic Columbia River Gorge to create an exceptional Oregon Pear Brandy. Made with 100% estate-grown Hood River Bartlett pears, this alluring and memorable brandy is excellent on its own or when mixed in your favorite brandy cocktails.
On winning the awards, New Deal founder and distiller Tom Burkleaux said, “Our team worked really hard on the pear brandy so we are thrilled to receive this recognition from our peers. There is a lot of crushing, mashing, distilling, consideration, (and cleaning!) that goes into turning 50,000 pounds of pears into an Eau de Vie!”
Reviews of New Deal Pear Brandy
Review of New Deal Pear Brandy by Willamette Week food critic, Matthew Korfhage: “The fullness of the fruit in this brandy is pretty much remarkable. Feel free to mix it, but not before you drink it neat.” Full Review
From Modern Distillery Age magazine’s Tasting Panel feature: “Light straw color (some haze; lightly filtered) with an aroma of fresh pears, bruised apples, and hay. In the taste are pears, bruised apples, hay, green tea, and wood. A big, luscious, silky body. Finishes dry with pears. Well-made and tasty.”
