Neals Yard Tasting / Raclette Night

January 8, 2020

Neals Yard Dairy Tasting

Tuesday January 14th

5-7pm

We are excited to have Neals Yard Dairy alums and Gorwydd Caerphilly producers, the Trethowan family, visiting us at Cheese Bar this coming Tuesday!
After working at Neals Yard Dairy as a cheesemonger, Todd Trethowan moved back to his family’s farm in Wales. Training under the few remaining Caerphilly producers in Somerset, Todd began the work of resurrecting the almost forgotten style. Joined by his brother Maugan and sister in law Kim (also a former NYD cheesemonger), Todd created Gorwydd Caerphilly, a mature Caerphilly that is typically sold at 3-5 months age. With a focus on the best milk from the region, the Trethowans works closely with local farms to control the quality of the raw milk they receive, maximizing flavor in the resulting cheese. Crumbly and creamy, Caerphilly is both lactic and savory, with flavors of mushroom and tart cream.
The Trewothan family are visiting the West Coast to unveil a treat new to the US, and Cheese Bar is one of their first stops! Pitchfork, a clothbound Cheddar produced on their Somerset farm, will be available for tasting this Tuesday. Come in and try this new cheese and see all the Neals Yard Dairy selections we have to offer.
No Wine Tasting this Thursday but we will be back at it next week!
