ABOUT THE DINNER

MWL is honored to host our next pairing dinner with Filipino food cart Baon Kainan, (pronounced BAH•oohn  kah•ee•NAAN). The up-and-coming culinary duo, Geri and Ethan Leung, will be taking over our kitchen to serve a 6-course dinner, showcasing a blend of Filipino and American cuisines passed down through generations. Each course will be thoughtfully paired with a cocktail or spirit, hand-selected by MWL Spirit Curator and Education Manager, Brett Adams.

*Explore the menu below to get a peek inside what we’ll be serving up! Private and communal seating will be available, and requests will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis. In the interest of public safety, we politely request all attendees provide proof of vaccination with a valid ID at check-in.

We look forward to seeing you then!

Sincerely,
Your Friends at the Library

ABOUT BAON KAINAN

While living in Washington, Ethan and Geri hosted their first dinner party for friends and family, coined “finna dinna” or “fixed dinner;” a collection of Filipino dishes through the American lens. “We’re inspired by the food we grew up with,” American cuisines collected through all the places their Military family took them, and of course, “the foods our mothers cooked us to remind them of home.”

The Filipino dishes they grew up eating, like adobo, kare kare, and sinigang, were expressed through their mothers acclimation to American grocery stores. “This is not your Tita’s cooking… it’s nothing against our aunties out there, we just want you to know we’re different.”

The term “Baon” means food taken to school, work, or on a journey. “Kainan” means eatery. Filipino culture prides itself on hospitality and community, “Baon Kainan” is an expression of kindness and love, a nourishment to be carried with you, wherever you go next.  We are incredibly excited to share Baon Kainan with all of our guests and hope to see you there.
