Starting Thursday, May 31, premier handcrafted gourmet chocolate maker will introduce interactive, educational concept at NW 23rd location
PORTLAND, Ore. (May 9, 2018) – Premier handcrafted gourmet chocolate maker, Moonstruck Chocolate Co., is reopening its Northwest Portland café with the introduction of an interactive, entertaining and educational concept. Starting Thursday, May 31, the new chocolate experience at its NW 23rd Ave. location will focus on innovation in chocolate making centered around product development, chocolate education classes, tasting & pairing sessions, community activations and a new interactive loyalty program.
“Our NW 23rd café is one of the foundational pillars of Moonstruck’s Portland family,” said company CEO Russell Sneddon. “As we explored reopening this location, we wanted to focus on the experience that Moonstruck offers. We have this vision of making everyone who comes into our cafes or buys our products a part of our company. We want this café to be the foundation of our innovation where we create, share, and shape the chocolate world together.”
Following a natural gas explosion in October 2016, Moonstruck’s Northwest Portland location suffered severe damage. The rebuilding of the café – which has long been known as a place for visitors to savor handcrafted chocolates, gourmet beverages and decadent desserts – presented an opportunity to take the guest experience to the next level. Programming for the café includes:
Moonstruck Academy: A series of classes covering chocolate history, the science of chocolate, chocolate making and chocolate sculpture.
Community Events: Pairings with local partners, including wineries and breweries, as well as, chocolate events like chocolate decorating classes for kids.
Loyalty program: Customers will earn loyalty points when making chocolate and coffee purchases, as well as by participating in tastings, events and campaigns. With 10,000 points, customers will become a “Moonstruck Chocolatier” and receive prizes, including recognition on the café wall, exclusive access to special events and much more.
Moonstruck Chocolate Lab: Members and Moonstruck customers will have the opportunity to participate in innovation and development of Moonstruck products, participating members and customers will earn points and prizes.
The Northwest Portland Moonstruck café is located at 526 NW 23rd Ave., Portland, Ore. 97210. Moonstruck will commemorate the new chocolate experience with a grand opening party, taking place from 6 p.m. through 10 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, and all are invited to join for the celebration. Guests of the grand opening party will have the opportunity to watch live chocolate demonstrations by Moonstruck’s Master Chocolatier Julian Rose, as well as participate in exclusive product tastings, including new truffle flavors, a Chocolate Porter beer collaboration with Vanguard Brewing and a chocolaty Belgian breakfast.
Following the grand opening party, the café will resume normal business hours: Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. through 10 p.m., Sunday from 9 a.m. through 9 p.m. The new NW 23rd café will have indoor and outdoor seating and offer complimentary WiFi.

About Moonstruck Chocolate Co.
Nearly 25 years ago, a simple but remarkable concept took root in Portland, Ore. — to hand-craft truly superior chocolates; chocolates that looked exceptional and tasted exquisite. It would be a chocolate indulgence for all the senses. From that initial idea grew Moonstruck Chocolate Co. To this day, the company remains committed to hand-crafting each piece, using only the finest ingredients. Master chocolatier Julian Rose pairs his decadent chocolate with fresh flavors found in the Pacific Northwest and beyond, and his team hand-decorates each piece with intricate care. The result is a chocolate experience without compare. For more information, visit: www.moonstruckchocolate.com.
