Montgomery’s Cheddar/Thanksgiving Wine Tasting/Raclette Night

Posted November 15, 2018

Montgomery’s Cheddar

After a long absence, we’ve just received a new wheel of Montogmery’s Cheddar from Neal’s Yard Dairy! This cheese is a large format (it weighs about approimately 52 pounds), clothbound, raw cow’s milk cheddar. It is made from the milk of 140 Friesian cows. The Montgomery family has been making this cheese since 1911 at Manor Farm in Sommerset, England. Montgomery’s Cheddar has a large following in the culinary world as it is one of only three traditional cheddars still made in England. After the wheels are formed, they are bandaged with muslin, and aged for 18 months. Neal’s Yard Dairy visits the farm regularly to taste and hand select their favorite batches for export. Come down and try this rich and grassy Sommerset cheddar.

Thanksgiving Wine Tasting

Thursday, November 15th, 5:30-7:30 pm

This week we have selected some wines that will pair perfectly with next week’s turkey dinner. Matt Howe of Estelle Wine Imports will be pouring for us this Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:30.

Here’s the lineup:

Eden Cider, Imperial 11° Rose, Vermont
This sparkling cider is made from a blend of Vermont apples and red currants. This cider is perfectly balanced, making it great to drink alone or with a rich and savory meal.

Afusti Torello Mata, Trepat Reserva, 2015, Barcelona, Spain
This cava is made from 100% Trepat, a local grape variety of Catalan, Spain. The wine is fizzy with a lovely salmon pink color. Notes of red berries compliment the wine’s high acidity. Perfect with turkey or with your favorite holiday dessert.

L’Atoueyo, Valle D’Aosta Petit Rouge, 2017, Aosta, Italy
This northern Italian red wine made from the region’s Petit Rouge grape variety. The red wine has notes of red berries and violets, it is dry with soft tannin. It is garnet to mauve in color, with a sophisticated floral bouquet.

Nicola Chemarin, La Haute Ronze, Regnie, 2016, Beaujolais, France
Regnie is made from 100% Gamay Noir. It has a beautiful ruby red color and notes of dried cherries and a delicate earthiness. This wine is the classic Thanksgiving wine.

We hope to you can come and find the perfect accompaniment to your Thanksgiving dinner!

Raclette Night!

Wednesday Evenings 6pm to 8pm
Fall is upon us! The leaves are changing and the air is cool and crisp. It’s time once again to break out your sweaters and scarves and cozy up with a plate of hot melty cheese. Raclette Night is Wednesday evenings from 6-8 (or until the cheese runs out) through the spring. It is $7 for a small plate of potatoes, ham, cornichons, mustard, with broiled Raclette cheese. See you there!

  • Thought I’d try this cake - Tangerine Almond Cake with Bay Citrus from 177MilkStreet.com. Quite nice. Yes, sloppy almond placement. Used the zest from 5 oranges. Syrup of orange and sugar infused with bay leaf over the top. Better than I expected.
  • Chicken karaage at Kizuki Ramen in Beaverton. Was... just fine
  • Jjin Man Doo at Spring Restaurant in Beaverton (dumplings with pork and vegetables)
  • Nice “secret” Korean Restaurant above the grocery store in downtown Beaverton. Been frequenting it quite a bit
