MAC’D is a build-your-own mac & cheese concept from San Francisco, CA that empowers customers to get creative. Customers channel their inner cheese artists to create their own individual masterpiece mac & cheeses.
MAC’D brought cheesy goodness to Portland via a delivery kitchen in the summer of 2018, and opened a pick-up window at 5145 SE McLoughlin Blvd, with outdoor seating this week. Customers can order directly from the window or order for pick-up and delivery through third-party delivery apps like UberEats and Postmates.
Since founded by food entrepreneurs Antony Bello and Chen-Chen Huo in July 2017, MAC’D has served over 100,000 mac & cheeses across two states. MAC’D believes in wholesome comfort food with a creative spin. Customers choose a cheese sauce, a pasta base (with roasted cauliflower as a gluten-free option), add unlimited mix-ins, from chopped bacon to roasted mushrooms, and top their dish off with toppings like crunchy panko breadcrumbs and slow-roasted pulled pork.
The concept has quickly become a San Francisco staple, and currently serves in three locations in the city. MAC’D has been featured in Eater SF, Zagat, The Chronicle, Foodbeast, and Buzzfeed Bring Me, and continues to draw folks from around the country.
In Portland, MAC’D PDX came in second place at the 2018 Portland Mac & Cheese festival, and features a PDX exclusive Ramen Mac, with chashu sauce and a braised pork belly. “We’ve been counting down the days to our window opening in Portland. The Portland reception has been fantastic, our customers keep asking us when our location will open, and now it’s here! We are excited to be a part of Portland’s diverse food culture, and bringing cheesy happiness one mac at a time.”
“When we first arrived in Portland back in July, we were overwhelmed with the feedback we received from the community regarding our delivery-only concept. We knew right away we needed to expand, and after attending food events over the last year, seeing the reactions of our customers first-hand gave us a feeling of pure happiness! We are incredibly excited to connect further with the MAC’D fanbase through our window. The team here loves the product, and every mac is made with all the love and cheesiness you can get! True statement!” – Christian Castillo, MAC’D PDX’s city manager “We have a wonderful staff up in Portland that’s always cooking up creative ways of improving the customer experience. We’re grateful to grow alongside our Portland team and become a bigger part of the Portland food community,” – Antony Bello
