The Love Apple
Nomad.PDX and Rubinette Produce reconsider a forbidden fruit.
PORTLAND, Ore. – A fruit that is known as a vegetable. A new world plant that colonized European cuisine. A poison. A potion to become a werewolf. A hot climate vegetable that grows beautifully in Oregon. The refreshing, juice-laden tomato – big, small, heirloom, slicer and cherry – is at its peak in the heat of August.
Join Nomad.PDX on Monday, August 14th, as chef Ryan Fox explores the origins and the beauty of locally farmed tomatoes in all of their forms. Working closely with Rubinette Produce owner Josh Alsberg, Chef Fox will select from fruit grown by sustainable, small farms from Sauvie Island to Corvallis. Discover the sweet, the savory, the mysterious and the addictive in summer’s storied vegetable.
