FLOR WINES OPENS ON NOVEMBER 23RD WITH WINE PACKS AVAILABLE FOR THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY
Le Pigeon sister wine shop opens in NW Portland with an eCommerce website and 500 wines, just in time to stock up for Thanksgiving and the holiday season ahead
PORTLAND, Ore. (November 9th, 2021) – Flor Wines is a retail wine shop that will open on Tuesday, November 23rd from business partners Andy Fortgang (Co-Owner and Wine Director of Le Pigeon, Canard) and Sergio Licea (former Wine Director of Little Bird Bistro). More than a traditional shop, at Flor, you can discover lesser-known bottles, winemakers, stories, and regions, all while seeking expert advice and conversation. The idea of Flor was born out of the pandemic, after Fortgang launched cellar sales at Le Pigeon and found joy in matching people with the perfect wines for home. No longer able to pour tableside and strike up a conversation, the cellar sales provided a way to stay connected to people through good wine.
The 1,700 square foot shop will include a shifting focus that aligns with the seasons. At Flor, the team’s knowledge of wines and expertise is paired with their excellence in hospitality, resulting in an intimate wine shop that feels more like a bookstore, where there’s something new to discover around every corner. Flor will have a robust eCommerce presence and can ship wines nationwide. In the New Year, Flor will offer a variety of wine clubs, classes, special events, and even by the glass pours to enjoy while you peruse the shop. Flor will be open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Flor is located at 825 NW Glisan Street, and the online shop can be found by visiting https://florwines.com.
On Thursday, November 18th, Flor Wines’ online shop will launch with the Thanksgiving wine packs. There will be three different wine packs offered for at home Thanksgiving celebrations: a Trio of Barolo; a crowd-pleasing Thanksgiving Sipper pack; and a Thanksgiving with the Ones You Really Love pack, boasting some seriously special bottles. Flor will also offer gift cards for holiday and host gifting. Wine packs can be purchased online, and are available for in-store pick up November 20th-24th between 12 and 6 p.m. Local delivery will be available.
The shelves at the shop will include a hefty selection of Burgundy, bigger whites and reds for the season, and champagne for the holidays, among many other styles. There will be a variety of international, and domestic wines, passions and hard-to-find oddities, from Italian wines and rieslings, to rarified Oregon wines. Flor will serve as an extension of the wine lists at Le Pigeon and Canard, leaning heavily French, but not exclusively so. Just like with a by-the-glass list at the restaurants, Fortgang and Licea are excited to find and represent bottles that normally wouldn’t be discussed or available, asking someone to take a chance on a wine.
“Something that kept me energized and excited during the middle of the pandemic was the opportunity to outfit people with the best wines to enjoy at home through our cellar sales. Whether they were doing take-home meals from Le Pigeon, cooking a special dish and looking for the perfect pairing, or just making the best out of a really tough time. Wines are meant to bring people together, and Flor will be a place that does just that,” said Andy Fortgang, Co-Owner of Flor Wines.
“When Andy and I began brainstorming about a bottle shop, we both wanted to approach things differently, more from a restaurant hospitality perspective. Like an old bookshop, at Flor we want people to explore, to discover, to learn, or be surprised. You can never learn all there is to know about wine – that’s the fun part! We want to provide a place to keep learning, and above all, find mighty fine wines,” said Sergio Licea, Co-Owner of Flor Wines.

Flor was designed with the customer and restaurant hospitality in mind, a place where you can wander the aisles with as much or as little guidance as you desire. In the New Year, Flor will be a place where you can walk in and taste whatever bottles and curiosities have been opened. Down the road, Flor will also launch educational classes and events to get to know certain regions and wineries better.
At the critically acclaimed restaurants Le Pigeon and Canard, Fortgang has cultivated award-winning beverage programs, and has been recognized as one of the country’s top sommeliers by Food & Wine Magazine. At Flor, Fortgang and Licea will be leveraging their collective 15 years of experience and knowledge of the wine industry and their long relationship with distributors to stock bottles that are unavailable elsewhere or overlooked by others.
Launching in January 2022, The Floral Patterns monthly subscriptions will offer three distinct wine clubs. The Two Shades Club ($60) offers a seasonally-minded choice of either 2 reds or 2 whites, The Whole Bunch Club ($120) includes all 4 wines offered in The 2 Shades Club, and with The Flor 4 Club ($135) you can design your own configuration with handpicked wines from Fortgang and Licea. All wine club bottle options will include well-made selections from small-batch producers, often difficult to find and source from. There is no commitment to join, and you can change your preferences whenever and however you see fit: select reds in the winter and whites in the summer, etc. Some clubs include free local shipping, and all club members will receive 5% off any additional bottles purchased during their wine club pickup visit to the store. You can sign up, or gift a membership, for any of the clubs between now and December 31st, 2021 in order to receive January’s club wines. Wine club selections will be available for pick-up, or shipping, the first week of January.
