June News, Medals, Events

June 5, 2019

Happy June! We’ve got a bunch of great ciders coming out, including the return of last year’s smash hit Cucumber Quencher, made with whole cucumbers.
As you may have heard, right wing bigots staged a targeted attack on our May Day celebration. As a result we are working with the Oregon Justice Resource center to file a lawsuit against these thugs who have been attacking and harassing Portlanders for several years. We remain committed to being a safe space for all members of our community to meet and enjoy a pint of cider. These recent events have strengthened our commitment to our community and solidify, in action, the importance we place on providing a space for inclusivity, individual expression, and collective understanding.
Many people have asked how they can help us in the fight against hate. The number one way you can support us is to stop in for a pint of cider and some of our awesome pub food, you can also pick up a tshirt, or ask your local pub or bottle shop to stock Cider Riot! ciders. We have greatly appreciated all the messages of love and solidarity this past month. Thanks for your ongoing support!

New Merch!

Stop by the pub to pick up a tshirt, tank top or hoodie today! The Confront Hate and Smash Apples designs are fundraisers for the Oregon Justice Resource Center. Do good and look good at the same time!

FlyBoy Brewing – Pilots Peach (Peach Ale), Dirty Pretty – Praha Pils (Czech Pilsner), Cider Riot – Road’s Closed Barrel-Aged Imperial Cider

We’ll also be partnering with Works Progress Agency, a local design firm to offer live silk screening, so you can make your own patches, as well as hosting our monthly documentary night in the cidery, featuring “the Two Killings of Sam Cooke” and “Devil at the Crossroads” about Robert Johnson.

New Wave Medals at Royal Bath and West Show in England

Cider Riot! picked up a bronze medal for New Wave at the Royal Bath and West Show in Somerset on Thursday May 30th. The medal in the International Cider Awards is the 3rd cider to medal at the Bath and West Show for Cider Riot!, in 2017 Everyday Semi Dry and 1763 picked up awards at the prestigious cider competition.
New Wave blends fresh pressed Pacific Northwest eating apples with traditional English bittersweet and bittersharp cider apples for just a hint of tannin and depth.
Cidermaker and Founder Abram Goldman-Armstrong was on hand to accept the award. “It’s a huge honour to win a medal at the Royal Bath and West Show here in the heart of cider country,” he said. Goldman-Armstrong learned to make cider at White Oak Cider, a Somerset inspired cidery in Yamhill County in the 1990’s. “I am thrilled to be here alongside the people who make the amazing traditional ciders that are my inspiration.”
