BARCELONA WITH NATIVE CHEF JOSÉ CHESA OF ATAULA AND 180 XURROS
Learn and enjoy this Portland-favorite chef’s heartfelt Barcelona experiences with him, from his favorite dives to Michelin-star experiences
Portland, OR, (December 27, 2017)– Portland Food Adventures and Chef José Chesa of Ataula and Portland’s only churros shop 180 Xurros are teaming up to offer their fourth annual trip to Barcelona, featuring the opportunity to learn about and enjoy the James Beard-nominated chefs favorite spots in his native city of Barcelona, Spain.
For year three we are excited to share this unique culinary tour takes place September 19-26, 2018, and features intimate dining experiences in the region, like the Michelin-star Can Jubany, where Mr. Chesa learned under Chef Nandu Jubany before his career took him to Portland, OR via Paris and New York. The week-long adventure also includes close-up experiences at Barcelona’s Boqueria, as well as jamon and wine tasting, private workshops, the best of the city’s tapas and cocktails and more.
“This is a unique opportunity to catch this very busy chef when he’s relaxed and in his element, showing off and tasting the best of this incredible food destination, direct from José Chesa’s passionate heart. We’ve brought 30 people to this wonderful city for this experience since 2015 and have had nothing but raves” said Chris Angelus, Portland Food Adventures’ founder.
The first six people who sign up for the trip will realize $400 in savings to bring the trip in at $4,995 per person. The price includes a Superior Room at a four-star centrally located H10 Hotel, most meals, a private tour of the Sagrada Familia, time with Chef Chesa and transfers. The other aspect of PFA trips is that the adventures some travelers have
their love of the Portland food scene as a common thread, so not only is the food conversation lively, but bonds are formed with this intimate group that last long after the trip is over. “Often times traveling using guidebooks and recommendations is still like taking a shot in the dark — you might hit the target, but often you miss. Traveling with PFA to Barcelona allowed us to sit back and enjoy hitting the target
every single time when it came to restaurants and experiences. Beyond that we had the opportunity to meet a wonderful group of new best friends with similar interests who live right in our own backyard, all while enjoying opportunities that a single person or couple would virtually never get to experience traveling on their own such as behind the scenes access to top chefs and restaurants…” said Joan Childs, Portland resident and frequent world traveler.

ABOUT CHEF JOSÉ CHESA:
The son of an Aragonian chef, José inherited his family’s passion for gastronomic excellence, honing his skills at Michelin-starred restaurants including Arpege, Can Fabes and Fleur-de- Sel. Along with his wife, Cristina, he opened Portland, OR restaurant, Ataula, in 2014 and was immediately named Portland Monthly’s Chef of the Year.
Since then, José co-founded the region’s only xurreria, 180, and has earned two semi finalist nominations as Best Chef NW by the James Beard Foundation.
