IRC Update 5/5

May 6, 2020

Here’s the latest from the intersection of restaurants and politics:

This week, we’re continuing to press forward in our fight to save independent restaurants. Here’s what we’re up to and how you can stay involved.

Cholula-IRC #CholulaTacothon

As a reminder, Cholula Hot Sauce and a team of hosts are going live on Instagram TONIGHT. Cholula is donating $1 to our efforts for every viewer up to $100,000 — so make sure to tune in from 7-10pm ET to the hosts’ Instagram accounts, linked below, and spread the word!

  • 7pm – 8pm ET – Christina Tosi and Victor Oladipo will co-host

  • 8pm – 9pm ET – Tom Colicchio and Sophia Bush will co-host

  • 9pm – 10pm ET – Aarón Sánchez and Dwyane Wade will co-host

IRC Owners & Operators Town Hall

We’re hosting our second national video conference tomorrow, Wednesday May 6 at 11am ET to answer the questions of independent restaurant owners and operators from across the country about how to navigate the PPP and why we need a stabilization fund to survive this crisis. Our industry experts and leadership will address many of the themes asked during last week’s call, while also fielding new questions from participants. Register here to join.

Make Your Voice Heard

The Senate is back in Washington, D.C. which means it’s more important than ever that they’re getting our message. If you haven’t already, email your reps demanding that they establish the Independent Restaurant Stabilization Fund.

We need to make it clear to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin that the PPP isn’t working for local restaurants. You can help: tweet at him using the following sample copy:

  • Independent restaurants are uniquely vulnerable to this crisis & the PPP isn’t helping. We need these loans when we’re able to reopen, but we closed to keep our communities safe. @stevenmnuchin1: ease PPP restrictions to #SaveRestaurants & 11M workers. https://www.politico.com/news/2020/05/04/mnuchin-resists-changes-small-business-loans-restaraunts-protest-234114

In solidarity,

The IRC Team
