IRC Update 5/16

May 16, 2020

Over 28,000 people signed on to our letter to Congress about making Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) funds more accessible, and we generated over 80,000 emails to members of Congress. Lawmakers listened: Yesterday, the House passed the HEROES Act, which includes improvements that would make PPP funding more accessible to independent restaurants. The changes will give independent restaurants a better chance at keeping their doors open in the weeks ahead. We hope the Senate follows suit and takes action to protect over 11 million jobs.
500,000 independent restaurants and 11 million jobs are on the brink of going away forever. Unlike most businesses that can just turn their lights on, restaurants across the country are restricted from reopening their dining rooms, and will have capacity restrictions when they do. We need critical support to serve communities again and assist in reigniting the economy. Fixing PPP is an important step — but we're also fighting for the Independent Restaurant Stabilization Fund because it's what will help us reopen, rehire, and stay open for the long term.
Stay tuned here and to our website for ways you can continue to stay involved.
Thank you for fighting with us.
