Inaugural Oregon Polo Classic Hits the Field for Charity,
July 23-24, at Hidden Creek Polo Club in West Linn
Presented by the Classic Wines Auction, it’s the first charity sporting event of its kind in Oregon
PORTLAND, Ore.—The Oregon Polo Classic, the state’s first charity polo event, is set for July 23-24 at Hidden Creek Polo Club in West Linn. Presented by the Classic Wines Auction (CWA), the two-day event will feature activities for both kids and adults, including hat competitions, opportunities to meet the horses and players, a lunch buffet, silent auction, and traditional champagne divot stomp.
Money raised by the Oregon Polo Classic will benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metropolitan Area, Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation and CWA’s five legacy charity partners. Event proceeds will support children and families in need throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington. CWA has raised nearly $40 million for its benefiting charities since its inception in 1982.
“We’re thrilled to announce our newest fundraising event and eager to introduce Portlanders to the sport of polo,” said Heather Martin, executive director for Classic Wines Auction. “Polo is exhilarating to watch and this event will provide guests with a great opportunity to watch the excitement while enjoying time outdoors and socializing with friends and family over good food and wine.”
Dating back to sixth century B.C., polo originated in Persia as a sport played by noblemen and members of the military, before spreading to current-day Turkey, India, China and the rest of Asia. Polo made an appearance in Portland back in the 1960s, and 50 years later, the sport has returned to the Rose City.
