LOTTIE & ZULA’S LAUNCHES APRÉS HOUSE CANNED COCKTAILS TO GO
No-fuss, low- and full-proof beverages ready to pop and serve
PORTLAND, Oregon—Lottie & Zula’s deli introduces hand-crafted Aprés House Canned Cocktails composed of quality local ingredients served in cans that work as both shaker tin and imbibing container all in one. Created by Erica Namare, the Aprés House Canned Cocktails require no tools, fussy instructions, or assembly.
“Just an excuse to Après,” Namare says, “Après motorcycle ride, après taxes, après anything … you earned it.”
The full-proof cocktail Nose Dive Annie, named for the legendary ski beauty Anny Bonfoey Cook, is made with Rittenhouse Rye, Nux Alpina Walnut, smoked maple syrup, and bitters. It comes with a large ice cube strategically placed inside the can, making it ready to pop and pour.
“The 3-ounce spirit restriction was a difficult proposition with the 12-ounce cans, but it definitely inspired an epiphany that creates an even better and totally unique product— ice in the can itself,” Namare says. “Our big cube cocktail variations are delivered to you through the kiosk as you would have had them placed in front of you at the bartop in the olden days.”
The crowd-pleasing Picabo is crafted with Lewis & Clark Vodka, St. Germain, rosemary syrup, and lemon. The can is partially filled with small cubed ice, making the delivery system for this drink as fancy—or not—as you choose. Shake it in the can and pour straight up in a coupe glass, or open and sip straight from the can.
Namare recently began working with Dreg’s Vodka, the Portland-based nonprofit whose mission is to help low-income youth in Oregon gain access to education, a safe place to sleep and eat, and an opportunity to be a part of the community. Dreg’s Vodka is featured in the Hey Dude drink mixed with Averna, PushXPull cold brew, vanilla, chicory, and coconut cream—a nod to Lebowski’s love of the White Russian.
Three hot boozy beverages are on the Aprés menu: Cape Codmother, Hot Tub Time Machine, and the Duck Butter Whiskey Toddy. Each is served at an optimal 140 degrees (hot, not scalding), perfect for warming hands, bellies, and hearts on a cold winter day.
