Founded in 2004, House Spirits Distillery is the undisputed pioneer and leader of the Portland, Oregon’s craft distilling community and member of Portland’s world-renowned maker community. House Spirits crafts an entire line of award-winning products exclusively in-house, in small batches, and with an intense and passionate pursuit of perfection using ethically sourced ingredients. Westward American Single Malt Whiskey is a celebration of the American pioneer spirit, made from scratch at House Spirits from Pacific Northwest two-row barley, bringing together the very best of the American whiskey and craft beer traditions. The House Spirits team also distills Krogstad Aquavit, Volstead Vodka, Casa Magdalena Rum and limited release developmental spirits. Christian Krogstad, a former brewer and winemaker, is Founder and Master Distiller of the independently owned and operated distillery, and is considered one of the visionaries behind America’s craft distilling resurgence. Krogstad and his team make House Spirits an honest grain-to-glass distillery where real people put their heart, soul and artistry into crafting products that delight and inspire.
During the month of May, the House Spirits Distillery team will be participating in the Love to Ride’s Bike More Challenge, an initiative for local businesses and organizations to reduce their carbon footprint and experience first hand the joys and benefits of riding a bike to and from work every day!
All employees will be biking to work and recording their miles throughout the month of May (the more points the team collectively earn, the more prizes they win!) with Otis, House Spirit’s tasting room manager, adding two barrels to his bike to age cocktails using natural Oregon air! Visitors of the tasting room during the month of May will also receive a 20% discount on any mini barrel purchases.
When the initiative concludes, the distillery will be hosting a free event on Sunday, June 3rd from 12pm-6pm in the distillery’s refined, yet welcoming tasting room where guests will be able to try the barrel aged bike cocktails alongside unaged versions for $25. House Spirits will also be celebrating with a photo booth with bike-themed photo props, free bike washes for anyone that rides their bike to the distillery, and demos for people interested in how to barrel age their own cocktails!
