HOT, HOT, HOT
To help erase from our memories the grayness of last weekend, Mother Nature is giving us the gift of sunshine and warmth over the next couple of days. We have plenty of picnic and grilling supplies that will make your weekend a delicious one!
This week’s tasting: UNUSUAL ITALIANS
Italy has an overwhelming amount of obscure, rarely exported grape varietals. Jessica and Kevin will pour a few of our favorites this weekend, including Ruché from Piedmont, Aleatico and Cesanese from Lazio, and a few surprises.
Join us to try some delicious, unfamiliar bottles that offer a new wine drinking experience!
Pastaworks: This Saturday May 30th 2-4p with Jessica ($5 tasting fee)
City Market: This Sunday May 31st 2-4p with Kevin $5 tasting fee)
Next week’s tasting: PIRATE PINOT GRIS
Small, local winery Seven Sails will be joining us to pour their flagship Pinot Gris and to promote the pirate’s life. Look for the couple wearing pirate costumes. If you’re having an urge to channel Captain Jack Sparrow, this might be the day to do so — while sipping on a thematic wine.
City Market: Next Saturday June 6th 3-5p
WINE OF THE WEEK
Királyudvar Furmint Sec, Tokaj, Hungary 2012
Királyudvar means “King’s Court” and refers to the history this estate had providing the royal wine in Hungary. This bottling is made from the Furmint grape, which you may already be familiar with if you have tasted the luscious sweet wines of Tokaji. The Furmint Sec is a dry version of the grape that balances its natural richness and intense acidity. A full-bodied, concentrated wine with notes of honeysuckle, salted toffee, honeycrisp apple, bright and with a long finish. Pair this with a pasta dish with cream sauce, or with creamy, flavorful cheeses like La Tur or Le Chevrot. Hawthorne 3735 SE Hawthorne Blvd. Portland, OR 97214 ph. 503. 232. 1010
