Salem, OR: The sun is shining, temperatures are spiking into the 90s, Oregonians are wearing flip flops, and we all know what that means… it’s almost time to set our mouths on fire at the Third Annual PDX Hot Sauce Expo! Coming up Saturday and Sunday, August 4 and 5, 2018, at the OMSI Bridge Lot in Portland (1945 SE Water Ave.), this two-day event will knock your socks off (hence the flip flops) with fiery flavors of hot sauces made in Oregon, the PNW, and other exotic places around the globe (even Australia!)
“After attending the PDX Hot Sauce Expo the past two years, we’re stoked to finally be a vendor at this event and share our own flavors,” said Chef Matt Kuerbis, who launched Hoss Soss in Salem in 2016 with two flavors. Bi-bim Soss, a Korean-inspired sauce named after the classic dish “bibimbap,” is perfect for stir fries and grilling; Guajillo Soss features three varieties of chile peppers and tops enchiladas, tacos, and nachos like a champ. “Be sure to start your tasting tour at our booth because our sauces have more flavor and less heat – you can work your way over to the reaper tent from there!”
If sweating out an endless string of spicy peppers isn’t your thing, you can still get your kicks at the PDX Hot Sauce Expo by watching other people destroy themselves with heat: the weekend schedule includes fantastic spectator events such as the “Beez Neez Sausage of Destruction Challenge,” “Spicy Tacos of Hell Challenge,” “VoodDoo Doughnuts of Death Challenge,” and — no doubt the king of all spicy food eating challenges — “The Guinness Book of World Records Reaper Eating Contest” to be held Sunday at 4:30pm.
Take a break from fanning the flames to cheer on costumed competitors in Action Sport Wrestling, furry divas in the Third Annual Chihuahua Beauty Pageant, or truly talented boozers hoping to win a $5,000 grand prize in the Booze & Infuse Cocktail Competition.
PDX Hot Sauce Expo tickets are $7 in advance if purchased online or $10 at the gate. Craft Brew and Ultimate Fiery VIP ticket packages are also available. For complete details, visit http://pdxhotsauceexpo.com.
