Holiday Rockstar Cheeses /French Sparkling Wines Tasting/Holiday Gifts

December 18, 2019

Rock the Holidays with these Rockstar Cheeses!

Looking for a last-minute gift for your favorite Cheese-lover or the perfect cheese to round out your holiday board? We’ve got your covered! Check out our list of Holiday Rockstars below!

Green Dirt Farm
Known for their award-winning sheep and mixed-milk cheeses, Green Dirt Farm only graces our case a couple times a year and is always a welcome treat. Based in Weston, MO, Green Dirt is a true family farm, operated by cheesemaker Sarah Hoffman along with her husband and their children. Consistently celebrated at the American Cheese Conference and the World Cheese Awards, we are excited to have a selection of their cheeses available in the case.
Dirt Lover- soft-ripened sheep’s milk cheese that gets a light dusting of ash. Pleasing notes of butter and mushrooms in this small format cheese and certain to be a hit with any guest.
Ruby- made of a blend of sheep and cow’s milk, Ruby is another small format cheese that will round out any cheese or charcuterie offering. Based on Stracchino style of Italy, it is lightly washed with salt brine for the first two weeks, producing a tart, lightly funky flavor.

Other Rockstar Cheeses Still in Stock!

Lorelei – This beloved local goat cheese is sure to win you points with locals or out of town guests. Washed in Deschutes Black Butte Porter, giving a rich, toasty flavor to the creamy, tangy goats milk. It has been a couple years since Briar Rose has made Lorelei and we don’t know when we’ll see it again so come in now!
Rush Creek Reserve – A Winter Classic! One of only two cheeses that Uplands Cheese Co. produces every year, they have perfected this washed rind, Spruce Bark wrapped soft cheese that is only available in the Winter.
Merry Goat Round – Love Harbison? Love goat Cheese? Tis the season for bark wrapped cheeses and this lovely little goat cheese from Maryland does not disappoint.
Black Betty- Cross your fingers that this extra-aged Goat Gouda will be around until New Years! A very limited quantity is produced each year, averaging 12-15 months of age. Its dark wax coating will add the perfect look to your board.
Stilton – Blue Cheese, especially this Colston Bassett Stilton, fits in at any point in the meal. Start your meal off with a punch, or pair it with the traditional dried fruits and you have the perfect dessert.

French Sparkling Wine Tasting Thursday, December 19th

This Thursday, from 5:30 to 7:30, Tim Rippa of Petit Monde Wine Merchant will be on hand pouring a selection of sparkling wines from France. A couple of the wines are made with classic champagne grapes, while some use grape varietals that are less commonly associated with sparkling wine. All are perfect for any upcoming celebrations and holiday meals. We hope you can come by and try some delicious bubbles and find a new sparkling wine for your next soiree!
Here’s this week’s lineup:
  • Domaine de Saint-Just, Crémant Blanc Brut, AOC Crémant de Loire, Chardonnay/Chenin Blanc, Loire Valley
  • Jean-Louis Denois, Cuvee Classique Brut,  Syrah/Merlot/Chardonnay, Languedoc
  • Jean-Louis Denois, Tradition Extra Brut,  Pinot Noir/Chardonnay, Languedoc
  • Domaine Pignier, Cremant de Jura, Chardonnay, Jura
As always tastings are complimentary!
