Welcome to the Summer of Love! Portland’s Go-To Local Getaway, Hey Love, Reopens With a Reimagined Menu
June 14, 2021 (Portland, OR) — After shutting its doors in March due to the pandemic, Hey Love is excited to welcome guests back to its lush, light-filled space. Now that vaccinations are up and hospitalizations are down, Portlanders’ favorite, Central Eastside gathering place is pleased to announce it will reopen with a reimagined menu of bright, beautiful dishes and perfectly-balanced drinks just in time for enjoying nostalgic summer escapades. Opening Thursday, June 17th, guests will be invited to dine and imbibe Tuesday through Sunday from 3PM to late until later this summer when Hey Love will be open for dinner 7 days a week. Brunch will be served on weekends at 10am starting June 19th.
Since Hey Love first opened its doors in 2018, it’s been known for its warm-weather-inspired menu and welcoming space. When the pandemic hit and restaurants were forced to make some hard choices, Hey Love decided to close its doors while its employees stayed safe even amidst so much uncertainty. During this time, owners Aaron Hall, Emily Mistell, Nicholas Musso, and Sophie Thomson focused their attention on the events impacting their Portland community, including the fight for racial justice, and committing to carrying the ethos of equity and care into their own space — what they call “Healthy Hospitality.” Now the tight-knit team are back, along with Chef Roscoe Roberson, offering up a new spin on their vision, and a revived emphasis on keeping their people and their community happy, healthy, and always well-fed.
This summer heralds a new dawn for Hey Love, as it welcomes a vibrant Portland community back into its space to enjoy great food among even better company. On the menu this time are updated and unexpected takes on classic dishes, with solid ingredient combinations that taste like the sweet release of a vaccinated summer. Dig into the 3 Napkin BBQ Lamb Ribs for a mess you’ll get off the couch for, served with cowboy beans, Sazon rice, and an unexpected achiote kick. Or go for something lighter like the Waldorf & Statler Salad, featuring a summery combo of peaches, coconut sugar cashews, grilled grapes, and smokey bleu crumbles. From appetizer to dessert, every dish is brimming with boldly reimagined flavors just crazy enough to work.
Pair your meal with one of Mistell’s signature, well-balanced cocktails on the menu, which will bring back some of the hits like Secret Life of Plants and Oaxacan Sunrise, as well as new favorites like Trophies Unlimited, which will feature vodka, hibiscus and grapefruit swirl with lime and verjus—it’s a perfectly-carbonated summer crusher! A cocktail highlight on the brunch menu is Afternoon Delight — a concoction that pairs childhood memories with the splendor of being old enough to drink — cinnamon toast crunch rum, orange curacao, amaretto, Black & White coffee roasters cold brew, kahlua, heavy cream. Also new to the beverage menu is a rotating, seasonal drink inspired by or co-created with industry collaborators, for which a portion of sales will go to raise money for local nonprofits. Up first is Mama Dut’s Gimlet, created with local legend Thuy Pham and benefiting the Immigrant & Refugee Community Organization.
